Who we are
A Local Trade, Not A Call Centre
The difference shows up in the first thirty seconds of a phone call.
When you ring a locksmith in Durham Region, there is a good chance the person answering is nowhere near you. A large share of the listings you find are lead brokers: they take the call, take a description, and sell the job on to whoever is available. Nobody in that chain has any relationship with you, with the technician, or with the outcome.
We answer our own phone. The person you speak to knows Whitby, knows how long the drive to Brooklin actually takes at five in the afternoon, and knows what is likely to be behind the door you are describing before anyone gets in a vehicle. That is why the arrival window we give you is a real number rather than a hopeful one.
We are mobile by design. There is no shop counter, because almost nothing in this trade should require you to drive somewhere with a broken lock in a bag. Non-destructive entry first
Drilling is a last resort, not an opening move. On a standard residential lock it is almost never necessary, and if yours is a genuine exception we tell you before we start.
A marked vehicle and a name
You should be able to see who turned up. If a locksmith cannot tell you the legal name of the business they work for, that is the whole answer about who you are dealing with.
A written invoice, always
With a business name on it, itemised, whatever the job. Cash-only and no paperwork is the single most reliable indicator of a scam operation.
Your old hardware back
If we replace something, the old part stays with you. It is a small thing and it makes it impossible to charge for work that did not happen.
We say no when we should
To fire-code violations, to opening doors for people who cannot show a connection to them, and to selling hardware that will not fix the problem you actually have.

Why We Will Not Give You A Single Number Sight Unseen
Anyone who quotes an exact price for a locksmith job without asking questions is either guessing or setting up a change of price on arrival. Both end badly for you.
What actually determines the cost is a short list: the time of day, the distance, the kind of door or vehicle, the grade of hardware involved, and the condition of the frame around it. Two lockouts on the same street at the same hour can be genuinely different jobs.
So the conversation on the phone is a couple of specific questions and then a range you can rely on. It takes a minute, and it means the number you hear is the number you pay unless the situation turns out to be materially different from what was described — in which case you hear that before anything is done, not afterwards.
The twenty-nine-dollar callout advertised elsewhere is not a price. It is a way of getting a vehicle to your door before a price is discussed at all.
What moves the price
✓ Time of day — after-hours and holidays cost more, everywhere.
✓ Distance — downtown, Brooklin and a concession road differ.
✓ Hardware grade — a knobset and a Grade 1 mortise are not comparable.
✓ Key type — a basic transponder and a proximity fob are worlds apart.
✓ Frame condition — if it is carpentry, it is part of the job.
✓ How many cylinders — doing them together costs far less per door.

A Note About Our Phone Numbers
This page has been on our website for a long time, and older listings and printed material sometimes still show a previous number for the business.
The current numbers are 647-330-7919 for local calls and 1-866-820-1331 toll free, both answered twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.
If you reached us through an old listing, an old business card or a directory that has not been updated, those two numbers are the ones to save.

What areas do you cover?

Are you really available 24 hours?
Yes, including statutory holidays. After-hours rates are higher than daytime rates, and you hear the number on the phone before we dispatch.
How do I know you are legitimate?
Ask for the legal name of the business, expect a marked vehicle, and expect a written invoice. We meet all three, and any locksmith who cannot is one to avoid.
Do you charge just to come out?
There is a callout component in any mobile trade, and it is included in the range we quote on the phone. There is no separate surprise line on the invoice.
Can you help if I am not sure what I need?
That is most calls. Describe what is actually happening at the door and we will tell you what the likely cause is, including when the answer is that you do not need a locksmith at all.
Do you work with landlords and businesses on an ongoing basis?
Yes. We hold key schedules for rental portfolios and commercial sites, which turns a midnight call about a unit or a door into a five-minute job instead of a forty-minute one.
